Week 6: Block D and Block F
We are making the final two blocks this week! These two blocks are one of a kind within your quilt and their unique shapes add a lot of interest to your project.
Goals for Week 6
- Piece Block D
- Piece Block F
Fabric Placement and Fussy Cutting
The three part drop of block D is a fun place to play with your color placement. Using three different colors is fun, but it could also look great in three values of the same or similar colors.
The size and shape of the bauble sections lends itself to fussy cutting fabrics of a slightly larger scale than what would work in the previous blocks. For the center section of this block, I fussy cut a print with a letter addressed to Santa himself!
Block F is all about the triangles! This block works great with any fabric combination that coordinates with the previous blocks. The triangle motif could be a subtle transition or an eye catching contrast.
While I didn’t choose to fussy cut my version of this block, the triangle design relates nicely to the block B central motif. It could be fun to echo a motif from block B in this bauble.
If you are interested in experimenting with fabric/color placement, I encourage you to try out your choices prior to stitching using the downloadable coloring sheets included with your pattern. You can access them on The (not so) Dramatic Life’s Festive Baubles page using the password printed on page two of your pattern.
That's it for week 6, we'll be back next week to piece our all blocks together and create our quilt tops! We can’t wait to see what you make this week, so please remember to post your creations using the hashtag #festivebaublesquiltalong and tagging @DabbleandStitch
