Festive Baubles QAL: Week 5: Block E (2 Blocks)

Welcome to Week 5 of the Festive Baubles Quilt Along!

This week Cassandra from The (not so) Dramatic Life will walk us through putting together Block E . Follow along with us here on our blog and on Instagram. You can use the hashtag #festivebaublesquiltalong to share your creations!

Sew Along Schedule

Week 5: Block E (2 Blocks)

When decorating a Christmas tree, round baubles may comprise a large portion of the decorations, but the uniquely shaped ornaments make the overall aesthetic interesting. So far in our Festive Baubles sew along, we have focused on round baubles, but this week we get to add our first unique shape. The point at the end of these baubles will contrast nicely with the previous blocks and the pieced stripes tie the design to the previous ornaments.

Goals for Week 5

Piece two versions of Block E

Fabric Placement

For this bauble, I suggest choosing a main fabric that has a high color and/or value contrast to the background for the main part of the ornament. This will make the shape of the bauble really stand out!

If you are interested in experimenting with fabric/color placement, I encourage you to try out your choices prior to stitching using the downloadable coloring sheets included with your pattern. You can access them on The (not so) Dramatic Life’s Festive Baubles page using the password printed on page two of your pattern.

Fussy Cutting Potential on Block E

This block shape looks great with solids or tone on tone prints, but fussy cutting with a small to medium size print could be fun in the main bauble fabric.

You can also have some fun with a smaller print like a dot or stripe in the pieced stripes!

That's it for week 5, we'll be back next week for Block D and Block F! We can’t wait to see what you make this week, so please remember to post your creations using the hashtag #festivebaublesquiltalong and tagging @DabbleandStitch
